CHESTERVILLE U16 NO MATCH FOR CMCA U16 AS CMCA U16 TAKES THE WIN

9 March 2025

We opted to bat on a dry and grassy pitch. Shivesh Moodley and Callan Hammond opened our innings, facing Chesterville bowlers who delivered medium to slow-paced balls. However, by the second over, we had lost four wickets for just 10 runs, with our top three batsmen (Deshan Pillay, Rorke Harris, and Blake Vincent) returning to the pavilion without scoring a run. We were reeling at 10/4, on the brink of collapse.

Fortunately, Shivesh Moodley and Reece Ruiter stabilized the innings, putting on a 55-run partnership that took us to a respectable 67/5. Reece Ruiter, Neil Bezuidenhout, Shivesh Moodley, and Tavarshen Reddy then batted sensibly together, guiding us to a formidable 135/8.

Our bowling was always going to be our trump card. We bowled out Chesterville in just 14 overs, with the opposition falling 80 runs short of victory. Blake Vincent’s exceptional three-over spell (3-0-3-3) stifled the opposition, while Valerie Du Plooy and Neil Bezuidenhout chipped in with two wickets each, sealing our victory in the 14th over.

CMCA Scottburgh Off to a Winning Start in KZN EMCU T20 Cup

26 January 2025

Scottburgh – The CMCA U16 and U11 squads have kicked off their KZN EMCU T20 Cup campaigns in style, representing Chatsworth United with a mix of grit, determination, and some thrilling finishes.
The U16s faced a tough Umlazi side at the iconic Chatsworth Oval last Sunday.  Captain Deshan Pillay’s decision to bowl first proved shrewd, as CMCA’s bowlers put the clamps on the Umlazi innings.  Shivesh Moodley and Seth Du Plessis
opened tightly, before leg-spinner Blake Vincent struck gold, clean bowling an Umlazi batsman with a beauty.  The slow track made scoring difficult, and CMCA’s spinners took full advantage. Pillay (3.4-7-3), Tavarshen Reddy (2-5-2), and Vincent (4-17-3) shared eight wickets between them, restricting Umlazi to a total of just 90 runs.
Chasing 91, CMCA’s innings had its share of drama.  Opener Neil Bezuidenhout fell early, and despite a steadying partnership between Rorke Harris and Milan
Thevan, Harris was soon caught at point. Rovin Pillay, on debut, showed nerves of steel with a vital 12 runs, forging a crucial partnership with his captain.  With six runs needed off the final two overs, the tension was palpable.  Valerie du Plooy bravely faced a tense penultimate over, holding her nerve against some hostile bowling.  Skipper Pillay then stepped up, calmly dispatching the winning runs off the final delivery to secure a thrilling victory for CMCA.

Meanwhile, the CMCA U11s enjoyed a more comfortable outing against FAM.  Captain Yajna Sign’s decision to bat first paid dividends, as her team piled on an
impressive 148 runs.  Anton Bezuidenhout top-scored with a fine 35, supported by contributions from Mathew Miller (12), Bryden Mitchell (6), and Kirav Singh
(6).  CMCA’s bowlers then sealed the deal, dismissing FAM for 73.  Hassan Kadwa (2-10-2), Neil Bezuidenhout (3-1-3), Yajna Singh (3-13-1), and Liam Jackson (2-6-1) were the pick of the bowlers, while Mathew Miller and Sethu Mthembu conceded just a single run each from their economical overs.

It was a weekend to remember for CMCA, with both the U16 and U11 teams demonstrating their talent and resilience.

The future of Chatsworth cricket looks bright.

CMCA CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE SOUTH

6 July 2024

“CMCA Triumphs in Thrilling Southern KZN Junior T20 League Finals”
July 6, 2024 — The inaugural Southern KZN Junior T20 League Finals witnessed an exhilarating clash between Scottburgh`s Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA) and the Port Shepstone Snipers. The atmosphere crackled with tension as both teams vied for supremacy in this high-stakes encounter.
CMCA’s Bold Decision and Steady Start
CMCA’s skipper, Shivesh Moodley, won the toss and opted to bat first. His rationale was clear: “Putting runs on the board eliminates the pressure of chasing in a crucial final.” Openers Justin Brown and Blake Vincent faced early challenges, losing in form batter Justin Brown in the second over. However, Rorke Harris joined Blake, and together they steadied the ship. Their 37-run partnership laid the foundation. Blake fell to Simanye Manona’s brilliant bowling, but Shivesh Moodley partnered with Rorke to build a crucial 63-run stand. Rorke’s well-played 32 runs came to an end when caught by Ruben Van Reenen off Manona’s bowling. CMCA posted a competitive total of 116 runs, banking on disciplined bowling to defend it. Simanye Manona was the standout bowler for the Snipers, claiming 3 wickets for just 13 runs.
Snipers’ Gritty Chase Falls Short
The Snipers started cautiously, reaching 45 runs in the 10th over for the loss of one wicket. CMCA sensed an opportunity, as the required run rate climbed. Openers Bertu van Reenen and Yusuf Moola contributed 21 and 20 runs, respectively. Karlo Jacobo (18 runs) and Simanye Manona (14 runs) kept the Snipers in the hunt. However, CMCA’s disciplined bowling in the final overs, coupled with exceptional fielding, sealed their victory. The Snipers finished agonizingly close at 112 runs, falling short by just 4 runs. Reece Ruiter’s nerve-wracking final over ensured CMCA’s triumph.
Rorke Harris Shines Bright
CMCA’s Rorke Harris emerged as the standout player, earning the Batter of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament awards. His consistent performances throughout the league were instrumental in CMCA’s success.
Acknowledgments
CMCA expressed gratitude to parents for their support in transporting children to various venues during the league. Coach Veronique Du Plooy’s extra coaching efforts and SKZN Tournament Manager Andre Ellapen’s meticulous organization were also recognized.
In Conclusion
CMCA’s victory resonates in Scottburgh, a testament to their teamwork and determination. Well done, TEAM CMCA! 🏆👏

Scottburgh Cricket Coaches Earn Coveted CoachEd Level 2 Qualifications

January 2024

Four cricket coaches from the CMCA Cricket Club in Scottburgh have been awarded their CoachEd Level 2 qualifications. Russell Symcox, a representative from CoachEd, presented the certificates to Head Coach Clinton Moodley, Coach Veronique du Plooy, Coach Robert Miller, and Coach Kalay Moodley during a special presentation.

Symcox emphasized the importance of continuous learning for coaches. “Coaching is a journey of constant development,” he said. “Coaches must stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and be adaptable to different situations. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach.”

The CoachEd program is a highly sought-after qualification for cricket coaches in South Africa. The program offers a comprehensive coaching library with valuable resources and information.

According to Coach Clinton Moodley, the CoachEd course provides “a blueprint for coaching” with cutting-edge content that equips coaches to deliver their best on the field.
