CMCA CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE SOUTH
“CMCA Triumphs in Thrilling Southern KZN Junior T20 League Finals”
July 6, 2024 — The inaugural Southern KZN Junior T20 League Finals witnessed an exhilarating clash between Scottburgh`s Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA) and the Port Shepstone Snipers. The atmosphere crackled with tension as both teams vied for supremacy in this high-stakes encounter.
CMCA’s Bold Decision and Steady Start
CMCA’s skipper, Shivesh Moodley, won the toss and opted to bat first. His rationale was clear: “Putting runs on the board eliminates the pressure of chasing in a crucial final.” Openers Justin Brown and Blake Vincent faced early challenges, losing in form batter Justin Brown in the second over. However, Rorke Harris joined Blake, and together they steadied the ship. Their 37-run partnership laid the foundation. Blake fell to Simanye Manona’s brilliant bowling, but Shivesh Moodley partnered with Rorke to build a crucial 63-run stand. Rorke’s well-played 32 runs came to an end when caught by Ruben Van Reenen off Manona’s bowling. CMCA posted a competitive total of 116 runs, banking on disciplined bowling to defend it. Simanye Manona was the standout bowler for the Snipers, claiming 3 wickets for just 13 runs.
Snipers’ Gritty Chase Falls Short
The Snipers started cautiously, reaching 45 runs in the 10th over for the loss of one wicket. CMCA sensed an opportunity, as the required run rate climbed. Openers Bertu van Reenen and Yusuf Moola contributed 21 and 20 runs, respectively. Karlo Jacobo (18 runs) and Simanye Manona (14 runs) kept the Snipers in the hunt. However, CMCA’s disciplined bowling in the final overs, coupled with exceptional fielding, sealed their victory. The Snipers finished agonizingly close at 112 runs, falling short by just 4 runs. Reece Ruiter’s nerve-wracking final over ensured CMCA’s triumph.
Rorke Harris Shines Bright
CMCA’s Rorke Harris emerged as the standout player, earning the Batter of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament awards. His consistent performances throughout the league were instrumental in CMCA’s success.
Acknowledgments
CMCA expressed gratitude to parents for their support in transporting children to various venues during the league. Coach Veronique Du Plooy’s extra coaching efforts and SKZN Tournament Manager Andre Ellapen’s meticulous organization were also recognized.
In Conclusion
